Dates:11/07/2016 - 11/11/2016

Ever wanted to make something that you can pass down to your family for generations? Are you interested in learning woodworking? Join us for this five-day class and learn all about chair making. Upon completion, take home an iconic piece of American furniture, built with your own two hands.

Students will start with a log and learn the traditional chair making process. We will split and rive usable materials from a log. We will hand carve the seat and steam bend the back and crest piece. We will learn to split and shave spindles with the drawknife. Students will learn the most efficient way to build Windsor chairs using tools like the wedge, hatchet, froe, drawknife and spoke shave, - leaving at the end of the week with an iconic piece of American furniture. Choose to make either the balloon back or fan back chairs. The legs are provided or students may turn their own before the class with instructor provided patterns.
